What a car to work on! Peter and Tom are a Father-Son duo working on this MX-5 Mk1 as a labour of love project car. The Mazda Mx5 is made for country roads in the summer. With this wrap, we can be sure they will turn heads!
The MX5 mk1 was sold from 1989-1998, selling a total of 400,000 units. You might be familiar with the term Miata, which refers to the Japanese imported Mazdas, which are called Eunos in Japan but changed their name when they were sold to the US market.
The car we were working on is 27 years old! It was looking a little worse for wear when it was brought to us, but a stunning Avery Dennison vinyl a few days of work and it was as if we were looking at a brand new car!
“Picking a colour was really difficult, because there is so much choice!”
When it comes to choosing the right colour for your vehicle wrap, we have a handy selection of swatch books for you to choose from. We work with 3M, Avery Dennison and Hexis. Over the years, we have chosen to work with these ranges of vinyl as they have proven time and time again to be of a high standard, for colour choice and quality. There are other options out there, but you may compromise on quality if you look for the cheapest price.
Peter and Tom came over to the farm with very little idea of what they were looking for. After taking a look through the swatch books, they decided a classic red or a rich blue would suit their car perfectly. Avery Dennison Satin Carmine Red and Avery Dennison Gloss Dark Blue were the front runners but after a little deliberation they decided to go for the Gloss Dark Blue.
Avery Dennison Supreme vinyl has the ability to last up to 12 years, depending on the choice of vinyl, use and care of your wrap. In order to ensure your car stays looking fresh for the longest amount of time, ask us how to care for vehicle wrap.
On older vehicles, as in the case of this 27 year old Mazda, it may be necessary to have bodywork done in preparation for your wrap in order to achieve the most long lasting finish. Visit us on the farm here at Complete Graphics and we can take a look at your vehicle to let you know what would be best.
They might be a little car to nip around in, but the Mazda Mx5 is not your every day vehicle to wrap. The “mouth” front bumper that is so iconic to the car is a challenge, but is not unmanageable for an experienced wrapper. Complex curves and shapes on vehicles demand time and attention in order to achieve the finest finish. A full coverage vehicle wrap can take between 2 to 5 days depending on the size, complexity and coverage of your car.
One of the things we love about vinyl wrapping, is how often the finished result speaks for itself.
We took Peter down the nearby Cotswolds country roads to shoot some footage for the video we made showcasing this project. Watch the full video on our YouTube channel, and subscribe for more behind the scenes content!
